Will.i.am has a smartwatch that does more than the rest

will.i.am smartwatchAmongst appearing on The Voice and fronting The Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am is a known fan of all things gadgety and is the director of creative innovation at Intel. Now he’s set to release his own smartwatch.

The rapper teased his new device on national TV back in April on Channel 4’s Alan Carr: Chatty Man, and again on the last series of The Voice. It should’ve landed in July debut but don’t worry though, it’s out this week!

Will.i.am will launch his upcoming smartwatch tomorrow in San Francisco during Salesforce.com‘s Dreamforce expo, which takes place before Apple’s own big event on Thursday.

The musician’s wrist tech has Apple’s Watch fixed firmly in its sights.

The Telegraph states that Will.i.am’s smartwatch boasts a curved screen and offers Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and even apps like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – this all points to the probability that it is running on Android Wear.

The big difference between this and other smartwatches is that it will actually be able to make and take calls, even if it’s not paired up to a phone. This is something that I’ve been griping over with all the other wrist wearables getting released and this definitely gives it an edge over Apple’s own device.

Let’s face it, companies such as sWaP, LG, Samsung, and even BlackBerry had wristphones sorted 5 years ago!

Hopefully it does better than his clip on camera.
