UK will get Google Chromecast next month

google-chromecastThe UK will be the first territory outside of the US to get its hands on Google Chromecast, and it will be available here from March 1st.

Chromecast is a little USB dongle that enables you to squirt the likes of YouTube and Netflix on to your HD telly via Wi-Fi. All you have to do is plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop.

Earlier this week Google made their Chromecast SDK available to developers, which should see the number of apps available on the platform increase over the next few months.

As yet there are no details on which apps will be available with Chromecast in the UK when the device launches, in the US the device comes with Netflix, NBO Go, YouTube, Google Play Movies and more.

The Chromecast will be available through high street electrical retailer Currys. With the US price being a mere $35 it will be interesting to see how that converts in to GBP.

If you fancy going Ultra-HD with Chrome then the keenly-priced Asus Chromebox may be of interest.
