Sony PSP GO Gone – NGP and Xperia Play on Murder Charge
It appears that the Sony Playstation Portable Go has been cut in favour of the the new arrivals – the Sony NGP and Sony Ericsson’s gaming Android, the Xperia Play.
The news comes via a Japanese blogger who works for an official Sony retail partner. Apparently production of the PSP Go handheld has been halted.
To add more credence to what could have been just rumourmongering it looks like the Sony Style Japan online store no longer lists the portable gamer – even searching for it returns no results – almost as if the PSP Go never even existed!
You can get to have a look at the product page by clicking a direct link (here) – but that will do you little good if you were after one as the page shows that the pocket PlayStation is out of stock.
The final nail in the Go coffin has to be the statement from Sony.
“It is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices,” Sony said. “Before the end of the year we are launching NGP, our next generation portable device, which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming. In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money, Essentials range of games and we will continue to meet that demand.”
So – Demand for “current generation PSPs” will continue to be met, by all accounts… but if that drops then… kill the Go. Well, it does keep dropping in price doesn’t it?
Are you part of the Go team? Are you excited by the Xperia with PlayStation controls or are you hanging on for the NGP? Please tell me 🙂
