Sony announces Micro USB drive for Android tablets and phones

sony micro usbSony has announced a new accessory for Android smartphones and tablets and I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before. Please welcome the Sony Micro USB flash drive.

Yup, this is some flash memory that can be connected to your Android smartphone or tablet thanks to it rocking a Micro USB jack.

As a lot of Android gizmos lack an SDcard port, the Sony Micro USB flash drive connects to your Android device via its micro USB port.

Once you’ve downloaded the free app from Google Play you’re all good to go. The really natty thing is that it also features a built in full sized USB connector so you can hook it up to your computer.

“Consumers want to let a friend see the photo they just took or share a video easily with as few steps as possible,” said Viviano Cantu, director of consumer media marketing, Sony Electronics. “These new drives combine convenience, peace of mind and performance and are perfect for mobile multi-tasking.”

Your droid device will need to be running Android 4.0.3 upwards to enjoy this extra bit of space.

The Sony Micro USB USB drive will launch in January with prices starting at $19.99 for the 8GB model, $29.99 for a 16GB model and $62.99 for a 32GB model.
