PlayStation Phone out in April – Named Xperia Play?

OK – the Zeus, better known as that PlayStation Phone from Sony Ericsson, seems to have been given a possible release date and maybe even a real name.

PocketLint has been given word that the phone will get a full-on reveal at the Mobile World Congress in mid-February and not at CES in January.

The gadget blog’s source says that “Sony Ericsson is going big on this one” and “… although it will get a Feb launch, it won’t be in shops until April”.

According to leaked specs the Playstation Phone will run on hardware that everyone already expected: a Sony Ericsson chassis with 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a 3.7 – 4.1-inch screen. There’s still a debate as to whether the new gaming handset will be loaded with a custom version of the Sony Marketplace with games built specifically for the PS Phone or the current.

SE EU have been busy trademarking names with Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo, and Xperia Neo but the one that’s caught my eye is Xperia Play.

It turns out that SE PR firm Jung Relations has registered a variety of Xperia Play domain names, including XperiaPlay.com, .net, and .org.

Now, I’m no betting man and for me this is way to early to call but Xperia Play would work wouldn’t it? Although PSPhone would be neater in my mind.
