Nintendo 3DS – 3D Handheld Gaming without Funky Glasses

The Nintendo DSi XL is still brand new and yet Nintendo has announced its newest portable product: the Nintendo 3DS.

According to the Japanese press release the system will use two screens, won’t require special glasses and, more importantly, will be backwards compatible with the current DS and DSi games catalogue.

We should see the new 3D handheld in Japan by early next year but it will probably slip out at this year’s E3.

There is a video showing that 3D gaming tech can be achieved by tracking the motion of the console in relation to your eyes. This means that you seem to be able to peer into the picture by turning the system this way and that.

Have a look and let me know what you reckon.
