Next Apple Watch going round

apple-watch-round-patentApple may well be following the likes of LG and Huawei next year. A patent has come to light that indicates that the Cupertino company is working on a round version of its Apple Watch.

The patent from Apple, headed “Electronic Device Having Display With Curved Edges“, shows a circular watch face.

These drawings indicate tech elements that would drive a round screen.

It works similarly to a normal display, and the tech would be hidden in a bezel around the edge much like the current rectangular Apple Watch or, indeed, the iPhone.

round-apple-watch-patentInterestingly there is not just one patent, but two similar filings from Apple, with the most recent being submitted in January this year.

This could well mean that the company still has plans to release a different style smartwatch. After all, most rival manufacturers have switched to round smartwatch designs in the last couple of years. The Huawei Watch, Samsung Gear S2 and S3 and LG Watches are particular popular examples.

round-apple-watch-patent-detailWhen will we see a round Apple Watch?

Patents might be future plans or just a way to cover any ideas that might crop up later. Let’s face it (pun intended), the Apple Watch Series 2 has only just recently appeared. This, in its self makes it fairly doubtful that we’ll see a refresh until the latter part of 2017.

But then, could Apple be releasing a new range…?
