New Apple Mac Mini – Bigger Price Underwhelms

The new Mac Mini is thinner and lighter than ever before and follows the aluminium ‘unibody’ Apple trend set by the MacBook Air.

To be honest that’s the exiting bit.

It is thinner but because it’s been flattened – The Mac Mini measures 197mm by 197mm as opposed to 165mm by 165mm.

The good news is that the new 36mm slim-jim now manages to incorporate the power supply.

So – what else has happened to the Mini? You get a choice of 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs, 2GB of RAM and up to 500GB of disk space.

The new Mini Apple is also sporting a “gaming-capable” Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics processor which is hooked up to an HDMI port. Hmmm…… Not entirely sure which games they were thinking of given that Mac’s have now got access to the lovely Steam gaming portal where the latest generation of games are available.

Oh – and the bottom comes off. Well, the bottom panel anyhow. This is supposed to help you upgrade memory and the like.

It might win over with its green cred – Apple are bragging that the new Mac mini is the most energy efficient desktop PC out there as it sips 10 watts during idle which is 25% better than the previous Mini.

I’m still not convinced that this is worth £649 for the entry-level Mac mini – sure it look purty but is it £700 pretty?
