Mount Everest To Get Mobile Reception [Highest Cell Phones]
Over at Ubergizmo they have reported that Nepal’s largest telecommunications company, Nepal Telecom, is going to whack up some cell phone towers that will actually cover Mount Everest.
The highest antenna would be placed at an altitude of 5160 meters above sea level at Gorak Shep.
This will mean that those nutters climbers will be able to dial-a-pizza or yak on the way and at the top of the peak.
The installation work is expected to start around mid-June, supporting both GSM and CDMA.
Upto 3000 calls can be handled at one time so that mass ascent can now be planned – also expect Tweets of “I’m on top o the world ma!” fairly soon afterwards!
