Karma Revero – Fisker reincarnated
The Fisker Karma was produced between 2011 until late 2012, the company went bankrupt and now they are back with the Karma Revero.
The Karma had plenty going for it. To start with, it was designed by company founder Henrik Fisker, whose former credits include the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9.
It was certainly easy on the eye and this plug-in hybrid was powered with a pair of 120kW electric motors and a GM-sourced 2.0-litre turbo for when the batteries were running low.
The thing is, it was prone to igniting. Those that didn’t set fire to themselves were plagued by other reliability issues. That was then. The Revero is now.
The company was sold to Wanxiang who is resurrecting the Fisker brand.
The Karma Revero will be built in California (instead of its original Finnish birthplace). The Revero looks a lot like the Karma but there is a new electrical system.
There are a few exterior tweaks too, mostly to the nose and tail ends.
The Karma website shows a countdown timer and a few other details. It states:
Our solar roof will create enough energy to power the car. No other vehicle sold in the U.S. has ever offered this capability. Our owners consider our solar roof an important element in our brand identity, and we listened.
Are these tweaks enough to take on the big guys?
