Instagram for Android Announced at SXSW
Android owners will soon be able to get in on the Instagram social photo action!
The announcement by the app’s co-founder, Kevin Systrom, over at South by Southwest (SXSW) broke news that the Android version of Instagram is almost ready for launch.
Not only that – Systrom claimed that it has the edge over the iPhone original: “In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app. It’s crazy,”
KS failed to go in to any real detail as to how the Google OS version trumps the iOS iteration but I’m sure that will come through soon enough.
Systrom did get questioned why it has taken so long for an Android version to be released; especially as the Google smartphone platform actually has the largest global market share.
Systrom simply said “I don’t think it took us so long. We just had priorities.” adding “Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would’ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have.”
Instagram has been downloaded over 27 million times on iOS devices.
Instagram Android must surely do at least the same – I can’t wait to see what the improvements are. The Android version of the retro photography app will probably be out in a month-or-so.
