Google Plus vanity URLs now available

G+ emailGoogle has started inviting all Google Plus users to grab a custom URL changing it from a long list of letters and numbers to something more memorable.

The email message reads:

“You’re now eligible for a unique Google+ custom URL that lets you easily point people to your profile (no more long URLs!).”

That message is now going out to everyone who’s profile has a profile photo, at least 10 followers, and has an account that’s at least 30 days old.

The URLs seem pre-set, and you’ll have to verify your details via a text message on your phone to change the URL, but it’s all straight forward and painless.

G+ changeOnce you’ve successfully landed your URL you’ll then be able to share your new address out freely with the knowledge that people will have some chance to remember it.

Let’s face it is much easier to pass around than plus/, isn’t it?

It sounds as those that have been given a URL with something random like Jane2013, haven’t been able to change it at this time. Although on my custom URL page I was given the option to “Request a different one” – but I didn’t select that option. Has anyone changed theirs?

“Once you meet the eligibility criteria, just visit your profile or page to begin the claiming process,” says Google. “If you don’t see the option yet, don’t worry: we’re expanding availability throughout the week, and you’ll see the in-product notice as soon as your custom URL is ready.”

Have you got yours?
