Blockbuster not honouring PlayStation 4 or Xbox One pre-orders

BlockbusterTroubled retailer Blockbuster has confirmed that it will not be honouring PS4 or Xbox One pre-orders after announcing it will re-enter administration.

Blockbuster has said that all of its 264 UK stores will continue trading for the time being while a buyer for the chain is sought. However, 32 redundancies have already been made from its UK head office. This will be the second time that the UK arm of Blockbuster has gone in to administration.

Following the announcement this afternoon Blockbuster was asked about all the next-gen console pre-orders that it took in good faith.

The store replyed on Twitter “We are sorry that you will be disappointed that we can’t fulfil your order for a PS4 or Xbox1.”

It is also telling customers who have already paid for their consoles that they will need to visit the store at which the pre-order was placed for assistance. Those who ordered online are being asked to write a letter to the company’s Uxbridge head office.

If past events with other retailers are anything to go by, however, consumers may sadly be facing the prospect of losing their money. They will of course be able to make a claim with the eventual administrators as a creditor, but this doesn’t guarantee a refund as the larger creditors get sorted first.
