Bargainous plastic-bodied HTC One M8 Ace rumoured
Now, I for one am a huge fan of the HTC One M8‘s aluminium unibody so swapping it for a plastic one would have to mean a huge gain somewhere else – preferably your bank account.
If you are an admirer of the M8’s spec sheet but haven’t got the spare cash to splash on the 2014 HTC flagship then you might well be happy to hear that there may soon be a chance to get a cut-price version of HTC’s latest smartphone.
The news has been tantalisingly dangled by none other than premier phone leaker @EvLeaks, the HTC One M8 Ace (as seen in all its blurry-cam loveliness), would sport a plastic case and specs almost identical to that of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
It would be packing a 5-inch 1080p display and a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC.
The huge difference would be that, where Samsung would charge top whack for its plastic-encased flagship, HTC is thought to be planning to massively undercut the S5 with the One M8 Ace (at around $480 / £285), putting significant pressure on Samsung’s latest seeing as the handsets will be sporting very similar specs. Let’s face it, Sammy has been pushing its luck with the ‘premium’ plastiphones.
Funnily enough, Samsung is said to be preparing a metal-bodied version of its Galaxy S5 called the Galaxy S5 Prime. It would feature a high-resolution QHD, 1440 x 2560 display, too. So, whilst HTC’s One M8 Ace would drive down its flagship pricing, the Prime would likely push Samsung’s flagship’s cost up.
I wouldn’t like to say whether or not the fancy Duo Camera from HTC One M8 would be included on the Ace’s spec sheet but, even still, I think I’d still rather buy the HTC if the choice was between the M8 Ace and S5.
I think there’s going to be even more shake-ups now that the OnePlus One is challenging all the major phones on price and spec with it’s “flagship killer”.
