Asus 4K-playing bargain-priced mini Chromebox PC
Where the price of 4K TVs are kinda getting affordable, finding content and kit to play them on remains expensive if you can find them. Asus has just unwrapped their new mini Chrome OS PC that does just that and costs just US$180.
The tiny Chromebox sits pretty at just under 5-inches wide and a little over 1.5-inches tall but still manages to squeeze in an Intel Haswell i3 or Celeron 295U processor, along with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM and Intel’s integrated HD graphics.
If that’s not enough for your demands then you might want to wait for the core i7 option which will also be available at some point after launch.
The Intel i3 and i7 models of the Asus Chromebox will be capable of pumping out 4K content via the HDMI or Display Port, which could make it the ideal movie streaming machine when Netflix’s 4K service lands.
The little black unit only has 16GB of on-board storage but you’ll get 100GB of Google Drive storage thrown in for the first two years, so need to worry.
Hooking up the Asus Chromebox is handled by Wi-Fi, ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and an SD card reader.
If you’re looking to add a home theatre PC to your tellybox packing Chrome OS and 4K skills then the Asus Chromebox will be hard to beat when it lands in March priced from US$180.
There’s no word on UK pricing just yet, but if I hear something, I’ll let you know 🙂
