22moo Game Bone for iPhone – Looks Great, is a Great idea but Would You?

The Game Bone may seem familiar – remember the awkward design that we first saw back in June last year?

This revamped version is starting to look pretty good to me and will give iPhone and iPod Touch owners real gaming controls consisting of four buttons and a D-pad.

The accessory features “a 2000mAh battery for additional power, an LED to show charging state and capcity, start/select buttons, built-in stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an omni-directional microphone.”

22moo, GameBone’s maker, is hoping that people will actually want to develop specific games for the controller and has released the Gamebone developer tool kit. Now, if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, that could be the (Game)bone of contention.

If this had the support of Apple or one of the big games makers it could stand a chance but, as it stands, having an add-on that isn’t compatible with the games you already have on your Appley handheld may slow down sales a tad.

No release date or price is given but there’s talk of things happening by the end of this year.
