We are big fans of the Mi Mix range here at GadgetyNews, so we’ve been excited ever since we got word that another was on its way. Well, this morning Xiaomi announced its Mi Mix 2S.
The Mi Mix 2S sees upgrades on its predecessor with a camera that integrates AI, improved performance, wireless charging and more.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. The Mi Mix 2S is equipped with the 2.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. This is mated with an Adreno 630 GPU and 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
This all adds up to 30% increased performance and 15% improved power efficiency. Not bad, huh?
Granted, wireless charging is still slower than cable charging, but it’s handy to be able to throw down your phone and not have to mess around with plugging it in. That said, the Mi Mix 2S will wirelessly charge in 2 hours 40 minutes.

Even more gorgeous
Xiaomi has also increased the screen-to-body ratio. I didn’t think that this would be possible, but they have created a design that beats the previous impossibly good-looking and award-winning handset!
Now you get a full-screen 5.99-inch notchless display, a curved ceramic body and 7000-series aluminium frame.
Xiaomi says it’s the perfect marriage of technology and art. I think we’re all in agreement about that.
Xiaomi has also implemented Face Unlock and ARCore technology, along with support for 43 global bands.
The Mi Mix 2S is fitted with two 12MP cameras at the rear – 1 wide-angle, 1 telephoto.
Furthermore, and probably thanks to that Snapdragon SoC, the Mi Mix 2S integrates AI. This enables it to do clever stuff such as on-the-fly translation and currency conversion.
Additionally, there’s intelligent background blurring; moreover, this is actually possible from a single camera, which means you can create bokeh-effect selfies, too.
This is a seriously impressive camera by the looks of things. This has seen a DxOMark score of 101 points which places it two points higher than even the Samsung Galaxy S9.
Camera presets and spec
The camera has an incredible 206 preset scene modes. Furthermore, it is packing dual-pixel autofocus. This increases the number of focus points 30 times over and results in super-fast shot composition.
The phone is loaded with a Sony IMX 363 with a six-element lens and f/1.8 aperture.
Also, there’s the massive 1.4um pixel size, which makes for even better low-light shots with 25% more light intake. Finally, there’s a 2x optical zoom, four-axis OIS and hardware-level noise reduction.
Mi Mix 2S release date
In China the Mi Mix 2S goes up for pre-order today at 6pm, and will officially go on sale on April 3rd.
The UK will get it through the likes of GearBest, and we’ll detail pricing and shipping info here as soon as we have it. But I do want it.
The top-end Mi Mix 2S costs 3999 RMB, which comes with global bands, a free wireless charger (also new, retailing at 99 RMB or £11), 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. A straight conversion puts that at around £449, a crazy low price for a flagship phone.
There are also two cheaper models, with the entry-level 6GB RAM, 64GB storage Mi Mix 2S coming in at 3,299 RMB or £371.
A mid-range model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is 3599 RMB, or £405.
All three are available in black or white, but only the black model has 18K gold detailing around the camera.
