Map2 – The London Paper Map That has Zoom Function!

by Jay Garrett on January 24, 2010

Ok – hands up all those with touchscreen phones that now get confused when attempting to navigate a regular mobile?

Well, I’m guessing it’s the same when looking at one of those old-fashioned paper maps.

You can see where you want to be but no matter how much you pinch at the paper it does not zoom!

Here’s The Map2, which is described as being a “zoomable map on paper,” is a high tech, low tech map that lets you zoom in to a more detailed view without going digital.

On the original scaled page each of the four quadrants can be unfolded to reveal a more detailed map of that area – essentially zooming in.

I think it’s a great idea.

If you’re visiting London get one – it’s only £8 and very groovy indeed!

DARPA Make Hummingbird Robot Spy

by Jay Garrett on July 6, 2009

hummingbirddrone_01You’ve got to hand it to DARPA – The brains working on tech for the Pentagon have some far-out ideas including this robotic hummingbird-based drone.

Could little hummingbird spies be helping in futuristic espionage? Not just yet…

Program manager Todd Hylton is aiming for “an approximately 10-gram aircraft that can hover for extended periods, can fly at forward speeds up to 10 meters per second, can withstand 2.5-meter-per-second wind gusts.”

At the mo the little robobird can only fly for about 20 seconds at a time.

But, knowing the speed that technology, brains and Government spending goes there could soon be those robotic hummingbirds sneaking into people’s homes and offices.

My birdwatching to me to Wired where I found this :)

Check out the vid of the drone below going through its tests.

Center CX – New Retro Gaming

November 19, 2007 Click to read more →

Like everything these days the latest trend is to contradict the original idea.  New clothes are retro, Indie bands are signed to Major, not Indie labels.  Now Nintendo are out to prove that retro games don’t need to be old.  Here’s a piece that will explain a little more:
