If your C or F series Sony Vaio gets a tad too hot for comfort then you really need to read this.
Sony is recalling over half-a-million Vaio laptops that were sold since January 2010.
So if you’ve got one of the 259,000 sold in the US, 103,000 in Europe, 120,000 in Asia or 52,000 in Japan then you’d better check if your lappy overheats.
Apparently there’s a gremlin in the internal temperature control system which could have your Vaio overheating ending up in a mangled laptop – possibly so much so that it could burn the user!
If you have one of the models mentioned then you are advised to download the BIOS software update from the web site or contact customer service so that they can collect the laptop for repairs.

Sony has announced its new range Vaio P series of ultra-portable netbooks. The P11S1E comes in five colours which can only be politely described as eye-catching
It’s got Windows 7 Home Premium installed and grunt comes in the form of an 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, although there is talk of a top of the line model with a 2.13GHz Z560 chip inside. There’s 2GB of DDR2 RAM and up to 64GB of flash storage.
The most interesting things on this 1.3 pound machine has to be the optical touchpad and accelerometer. The touchpad is built into the LCD bezel and means that you’re able to navigate the desktop by just holding the screen – the pad is on the right bezel while the left and right mouse buttons are on the left. The other bit of newness is that accelerometer. Flip the device vertically to read documents, but also tilt it to the left or right to move forward or backward while surfing the interwebs.
The display is an 8 inch, 1600 x 768 widescreen job but you can change the resolution at the touch of a button to display text, images or HD video in a way that suits you best.
Sony have managed to keep the size down to 24.5cm long and 12cm high and it’s less than 2cm thick.
It’s got Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and GPS. The digital compass and built in real time maps software will come in handy if you still haven’t got a phone with GPS
The states have had the press release which puts the Vaio P at $799 with the 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, and not the newer Z560 upgrade. I’m guessing us Brits will be looking at the pointy end of £700!
Would you spend that on a Vaio P?
