There’s been a couple of noteworthy announcements made over at the Star Wars Celebration V event in Florida.

George Lucas has unveiled the news that there will be a full Blu-ray box-set and excitingly has aired a missing scene from Return of the Jedi that shows Luke making his lightsaber a cave on Tatooine!

The short section that hit the cutting room floor involved Darth attempting to sweet-talk Luke over to the Dark Side as he does a bit of DIY lightsaber building after loosing his original one when fighting his dad.

As well as that great bit of ‘extra’ Star Wars geekery it was revealed by the producer of the first two Star Wars movies, Gary Kurtz, that the original ending for Return of the Jedi was not included in the film that we all know and love. Kurtz announced that “we had an outline and George changed everything in it.”

Apparently Han Solo was supposed to get killed off but “by that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason,” as “the toy business began to drive the [Lucasfilm] empire.”

I wonder what other secrets are out there……..

In the meantime check out Luke building his green lightsaber below:

What better way to join the various Star Wars GPS voice-overs (and Mr Brian Shouty Blessed) than to be directed to your intended destination by means of a Rebel Alliance targeting system?

Flash developer Christopher Caleb decided that his Mini needed more of an X-Wing Fighter vibe and created this Android app using Adobe’s AIR platform.

You get the bleeps and raspberries from trusty ol’ R2-D2 as well as other sound effects.

The great news is that it could be ported over to your iPhone or BlackBerry fairly soon. :)

When not headed down a trench of the nearest orbiting planet-killer you can flick the Targeting Computer app over to clock mode.

Handy for keeping tabs on what you’re up to so as not to miss last orders at the Cantina.

I might even have a suggestion for an ideal car-coat to stay in character ;)

Check it out in action below.

R2-D2 must be the galaxy’s most loved and most recognised droid. As well as being adorable as a companion he’s also proved himself handy to have around – whether as a mechanic or patching into computer interfaces he’s helped many a human, as well as fellow droids, out of rather sticky situations. This R2 statue [...]

How cool is this? The lightsaber flashlight (or torch to us Brits) is a replica of Darth Vader‘s weapon of choice and, unfortunately, is only loaded with 4 red LEDs instead of a laser that can cut through any young Jedi wannabe who would be using their own torch (complete with sound-effects!). It’s powered by [...]

Light Saber USB Lamp – Jedi Lighting

We all love Star Wars (at least the original trilogy) and Light Sabers are totally cool. Some of us are too old to go leaping about making the relevant noises with a replica saber. And our partners may question the amount of time we give to building our own custom Light Sabers. But, surely, we’re [...]

THQ Wireless has released a set of screenshots showing what Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is going to look like on Apple’s 3Gesus iPhone.
