Acer_Liquid_A1Cast your gadgety minds back to October and Acer’s announcement of their Liquid A1 Android powered smartphone.

Now, The Acer Liquid A1 is for sale and stands as being the first handset from anyone to run Google’s mobile Andoid OS on Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon hardware – albeit underclocked to 768MHz. Don’t ask me why – they just have.

But if you do buy this you’ll have the bragging rights to having the only model phone to run this processor for a while as, to my mind, the others wont start to appear til well into 2010.

Now, most companies would’ve created quite the song-and-dance about the release of a world’s first and new product – but not so Acer. I’ve discovered this news quite by accident to be honest.

As a recap: The Liquid A1 features a 3.5in WVGA capacitive touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth and a five megapixel camera.

Play.com and Amazon are still listing it for pre-order but eXpansys and others are already retailing for next day delivery.

Nokia-storeThe Finnish flagship presence on Regent Street is due to close after only opening in February 2008.

A familiar trend in these times of the crunch, the store is closing for the same reason most stores are closed: it’s not paying for itself.

A Nokia spokeswomen declared that it’s “not been as efficient or as profitable” as the company hoped it would be.

The Nokia Regent Street store offers various services and phones that are either unlocked, or connected to the major UK carriers (O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and 3). Customers were treated as “guests” and could play unhassled with handsets.

The store, in the former Dickins & Jones building near Oxford Circus and just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from the Apple Store, is likely to close early next year.

About 30 people will become jobless after the 7500 square foot store is closed.
