Bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? Activision says Thanks 310 Million Times! CoD

codmw2You can’t have gotten through this week without hearing about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I’ve not bothered mentioning it as everyone seemed to be doing that.

But I can’t fail mentioning this.

The latest episode of the popular shooty-shooty-death-kill game has experienced the biggest launch of an entertainment product in history!

It has managed to haul a huge $310 million in the space of 24 hours in the UK and US alone!

Remember that little Batman film – Dark Knight? PAH!

That only managed $158 million in the same period of time.

This amount was generated by 4.7 million units sold which is especially fantastic when you know that the market has been in decline in the last year.

In the UK 1.2 million copies were sold in the 24 hours following its release, twice the amount Grand Theft Auto IV sold in its first day.

Analysts predict that by Christmas, Activision will have sold around 12 million copies of the game.

Since its release, the game has been plagued with online difficulties. PC gamers were disappointed with the initial lack of online support, while the PlayStation Network struggled to deal with the sudden flood of online games.

Meanwhile Xbox Live experienced relatively few problems, and even achieved a landmark 2 million users online at the same time.

Is it all that it’s cracked up to be?

Sony Files PS3 Fun Bot Application

sony-ps3-robotSony has apparently filed a patent application that shows and describes a little bot buddy for the PS3.

The PS3 robot would sport a camera, display, GPS, Gyro sensor and a microphone.

It looks as though the robot will be able to roam free about your abode autonomously.

Perhaps attach a target onto your pet and watch the battle between bot and animal in a game of laser hunting!

The only thing missing is what it will actually be able do and what its purpose actually is – probably not the pet taunting idea I’m guessing.

Japan loves robots and already has plenty of companion bots that pack Wi-Fi to get stuff from your puter or the interweb – I’m guessing a PS3 hooked robot will be able to do the same.

Let’s see if it ever makes it into plastic and metal :)
