Jet Pod CrashSad news as the inventor of the Jet Pod Flying Taxi I reported about back in May last year has died in a test flight.

The aviation entrepreneur, aged 53, died when the prototype aircraft crashed and burst into flames shortly after take-off from a landing strip in the northern town of Taiping according to Malaysian police.

Mr Dacre was an inventor and the managing director of British-based Avcen Ltd.  The company planned to have the “Jetpod” eight-seater flying taxi in production by 2010 – I was hoping that it could be the official Olympic transport.

Local newspapers quoted witnesses as saying that the aircraft attempted to take off several times before soaring into the sky and then abruptly veering to the left and crashing to the ground.

The Jetpod was designed to have a cruising speed of 350 miles (550 kilometres) per hour, be quieter and quicker than a helicopter, and require just 125 meters to take off and 300 meters to land.

Dacre had said he hoped the Jetpod would transform inner-city transport, shuttling communters into short urban landing strips.

VuNow Pod Set-top Box Has Dedicated YouTube Channel

by Jay Garrett on December 31, 2008

vunowSay hello to Versimo Networks VuNow Pod set-top box.

The VuNow is a hand-sized set-top box that picks out channels across the interweb and sends them straight to your TV without requiring your puter to be hooked up.

The channels include one solely for YouTube content, another for CinemaNow, a BitTorrent codec option and a “Global’ select channel that takes in choice clips from around the world.

VuNow’s Pod comes in a couple of flavours: The HD version is priced at $150 and a standard definition at $100.

The user interface is apparently pretty easy to find your way around with and is said to be basically modeled on the Apple TV UI.

The VuNow Pod also comes with the necessary video search engine, it’s wireless (though it does have an HDMI port), and requires no subscription fees.

You can also use the pod as a streamer for your personal media on a PC.

The VuNow pod is available now people!

It has a Parallax Propeller 8-core processor running at 80MHz that can even [...]

StompIO – Revolutionary Modelling?

January 24, 2008 Click to read more →

I have been prodded and asked “why don’t you review more amps/effects/cabs, etc here as you’re a musician?”
So – here’s  a noteworthy piece of gadgety goodness that has recently caught my eye.
It’s the StompIO- which is a USB connected interface for AmpliTube and the makers, IK Media, call it a “Revolutionary stage controller”.
I think “revolutionary” may [...]
