Nokia N9 Slides out of Hiding – Meego Evident

by Jay Garrett on August 20, 2010

There has been plenty of chat about the constantly delayed N8 arriving in the UK but this is what I’ve been waiting for.

Say “Oooooer that looks rather tasty missus” to Nokia’s N9.

Chinese website, Baidu, thoughtfully leaked pictures of the top-of-the-line Nokia which flashed its crazy sliding QWERTY-board skillz.

It appears to be packing MeeGo although sources say the aluminium cased Apple Mac Pro-esque design isn’t quite it yet – but that it will be ready in the 8th week of 2010. So, just in time for your lists to Santa and coincidentally in-line with MeeGo’s planned release.

Word on the street is that the metal mobile even has “Property of Nokia” stamped inside the battery compartment. Those crazy Fins!

Moving over to MeeGo is quite a big deal for Nok as all their other smartphones have run on the Symbian OS. Symbian 3 should be busting out on the N8 but it does look like the N9 could well be the first to rock the Intel/Nokia open-source OS which was revealed at this year’s Mobile World Congress.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro Brings the QWERTY at MWC

by Jay Garrett on February 15, 2010

If the only thing holding you back from owning Sony Ericsson’s HD recording Vivaz is your fear of virtual keyboards – have a look-see at the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro!

The QWERTY board adds a tiny 2.5mm to the Vivaz’s slimline ‘human curvature’ contours, but you do seem to lose some features.

Instead of an 8.1 MP snapper of the Vivaz, the Vivaz Pro gets a shaved down 5.1 number. You still, however keep the lovely 720p HD video recording and a 3.2-inch screen which is a relief! :)

Wi-Fi, GPS and the 3.5mm headphone jack are as should be as is the microSD card slot.

“Having announced Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ in January we are now adding a sister phone that includes a QWERTY keyboard along with the touch screen for a superior messaging and entertainment experience,” said Daniel Sandblom Marketing Business Manager, Sony Ericsson. “Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro meets the increased consumer demand for QWERTY devices without compromising on any entertainment features.”

Here’s a quick features listlet:

  • Full slide-out keyboard for faster typing
  • Stay in touch through email, Twitter™, Facebook™, blogging and chat
  • View everything on the 3.2” 16:9 wide touchscreen
  • Capture the action in HD resolution – upload to YouTube via Wi-Fi™
  • PlayNow – immediate online access to applications, games and music.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz™ pro will be available in selected markets from Q2 in the colours Black and White.

I’m hoping to get a grope of this tomorrow.
