mouse

I was so tempted just to post the pictures and see if anyone could work out what the heck this thing was.

Then the more I looked the more it became obvious. It’s examples of the new Mad Catz Cyborg mouse – although I still can’t guess what all the buttons and bolts do.

The Mad Catz USB Cyborg mice have pretty much everything a gamer needs. You get adjustable ergonomics/weights and DPIs up to 5600 and they’re out in Summer.

“Cyborg is best known for ergonomic and fully adjustable flight sticks, gaming mice and keyboards. The new mouse range incorporates the same market leading design principles and applies them to gaming mice. For the first time ever on a mouse, the key points of contact between the gamer’s hand and the mouse are fully adjustable allowing it to be customized for any grip preference” commented, Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “The Cyborg mouse range was developed entirely in house and I believe they are the most comfortable gaming mice you’ll ever use. Besides, they just look cool!”

Here’s a run down of the range:

• Cyborg R.A.T. 7 Gaming Mouse
o Features: Fully Adjustable; 5600dpi laser; Programmable; Weight System; USB powered
o MSRP: $99.99 / £79.99 / €99.99

macbook-heroA range of Apple-flavoured joy abounds!

Not only do we have a new MacBook and a choice of iMacs the little Magic Mouse gets all touchy!

So – a brand-new version of the entry-level white MacBook eh?

What’s new?

You get the upper-class addition of the same glass multi-touch trackpad that’s usually seen larking about on the more expensive aluminium MacBook Pro.

Other bits on the list include a 13 inch model include a backlit keyboard as standard, a more durable unibody plastic body (like a cheaper version of the aluminium MacBook Pro job), and up to 7 hours of battery life.

OS X Snow Leopard purrs along on a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and the same Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics chip found in the entry-level aluminium MacBook Pro.

Not too shabby for £799 methinks :)

imac

Also getting a wash-and-brush up is Apples iMac line of all-in-one desktops.

The spanky new LED backlit 21.5 and 27 inch widescreen iMacs come with a choice of graphics and hard-drive options, as well as that much longed for SD card slot and that new multi-touch Magic Mouse.

As rumoured there is still a distinct lack of Blu-ray.

These new models get an edge-to-edge glass design and aluminium unibody.

Sporting 4GB of 1,066MHz DDR3 memory, with breathing space to build-up to 16GB across four SO-DIMM slots.

They’re also swaggering about with a DVD drive, AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, FireWire, iSight webcam and that SD card slot.

The 21.5 inch screen boasts 1920×1080 pixel HD resolution.

You get the choice of chip: the first includes graphics powered by an integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip, and a 500GB hard drive, for £950. The second offers a discrete ATI Radeon HD 4670 card and 1TB hard drive, for £1,200.

The new 27 inch model is rocking 2560×1440-pixel display.

The 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo version includes the ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics.

Whereas the 2.66GHz version is packing either the new quad-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs and ATI Radeon HD 4850 discrete graphics.

You get the option of roomy 1TB or 2TB hard drives.

The new iMacs are bundled with a wireless keyboard and the new wireless Magic Mouse. It’s a mouse with multi-touch – yeah, really, just like the iPod Touch and iPhone!

Zalman Mouse Gun – Good Idea?

October 12, 2008 Click to read more →

When playing first person shooters (FPS) using a mouse, no matter how engaging titles such as ‘Crysis Warhead’ are – moving your mouse around isn’t much like waving a gun around – unless you have the Novint Falcon pistol add-on.
Alec Meer from Rock, Paper, Shotgun got to grips with Zalman’s FPSGUN concept mouse gun thingy [...]

Handshoe Mouse – Fits Like A Glove?

October 5, 2008 Click to read more →

This is one of the few ‘ergonomic’ controllers that actually looks like it could make a difference.
The oddly named Hippus’ HandshoeMouse was developed at two medical universities in Holland and not in someone’s shed over a weekend of cheap booze and reggae roll-ups.
They have performed “extensive medical studies” that “support the concept” which enables the [...]

Alien Mouse Gives Good Vibrations

July 25, 2008 Click to read more →

This striking gadget isn’t the future of inner-city transport (more’s the pity) it is, in fact, the aptly named “Alien Mouse” concept from the crazy designery head of Mizanur Rehman.
The brief was to design a mouse that would strictly adhere to the principles of ergonomics so that it would provide maximum comfort.
This is acheived by molding itself to the user’s hand as [...]

Mouse Getting Killed Off in 5 Years?

July 22, 2008 Click to read more →

Could this be bye-bye mousey?
Well, that’s what Gartner analyst Steve Prentice has predicted.
His opening gambit was that the mouse
“works fine in the desktop environment but for home entertainment or working on a notebook it’s over”
He does reckon that the keyboard is here for a long time but
“the idea of a keyboard with a mouse as a [...]

Mac Razer – Gaming Mouse for Apple

May 1, 2008 Click to read more →

I’m a big fan of Razer’s gaming mice and use their Krait mouse every day but I’m slightly confused by this latest addition to the range.

Mices to blow opponents to pieces

November 28, 2007 Click to read more →

With 3200dpi gaming mice becoming the standard, Razer needed to step it up.  Personally I find my, now standard, 3200dpi mouse plenty much enough. I4U reviewed Razer’s 4000dpi Lachesis as being ”….very accurate and tracking is great, particularly in Crysis”. Keep in mind though; this review was performed whilst playing on a 30-inch screen!
If you’re on a considerably smaller screen, you’d probably find [...]
