Modu Modular Mobile Actually On Sale!

mobo-in-israelWe knew that the clever Modu had hit production lines but now it’s made another bold step.

It has actually been released and is out there in the really-real world!

The carrier to debut this modular mobile is none-other than the Israel company’s local network Cellcom.

To deter any people saying things like “yerright – that’s real!” Mobo have gone over the jacketed blower with a full hands-on.

It looks all the same as the thing outed in February, including the jackets – but this time as a retail product!

So – when is it coming over here then?

Modu Modular Mobile Phone Finally on Production Line

moduRemember the clever Modu modular mobile I wrote about back in February 2008 and whose release date was whispered as being this Spring?

Well it’s apparently ready for production.

Gizmodo has received a tip; albeit via Israel, via Google Translate – so I’m guessing it’s not exactly water-tight.

Saying that though there is an article citing Modu CEO Dov Moran saying that the modular handset is scheduled for launch in Southeast Asia in Q2 and that the 200 Modu employees have been asked to swap their Nokia handsets for Modu ones.

If you’re not familiar with this funky phone you basically get a tiny cellphone and build a number of “jackets” around it that do a variety of different tasks.

There’s the Ghetto Blaster Jacket designed by JBL for instance.

Almost exactly a year ago those teasers over a Modu mentioned their intentions to release a mobile blower that could be inserted into other gadgets (“jackets”) in order to change and personalise its function.
A bit more modular than a Lego Phone!
