Better rethink that my gadgety friends as Apple has voided warranties and refused to carry out repairs on computers exposed to cigarette smoke.
True.
Reports on US consumer issues site, The Consumerist, claim Apple voided a Macbook warranty because it was “contaminated” by cigarette smoke.
The case follows a similar report of Apple refusing to service an iMac due to “health risks of secondhand smoke”.
In both cases, it’s claimed that Apple first agreed to repair the Macbook before informing the owner that work was impossible because smoke residue had contaminated the system.
One woman, complaining about Apple’s refusal to repair her iMac, said: “My Applecare warranty says nothing about not honouring warranties if the owner is a smoker.”
Apple’s terms and conditions indicate that Applecare doesn’t cover “damage caused by extreme environment” – apparently that means a few Luckies smoked near-by.
Have you been turned down by Apple because of cigarette smoke?
Let me know.
I could’ve posted a pic of a smoke-damaged puter but hey – it’s Monday, Dita is lovely and she’s holding a cigarette!
Not only do we have a new MacBook and a choice of iMacs the little Magic Mouse gets all touchy!
So – a brand-new version of the entry-level white MacBook eh?
What’s new?
You get the upper-class addition of the same glass multi-touch trackpad that’s usually seen larking about on the more expensive aluminium MacBook Pro.
Other bits on the list include a 13 inch model include a backlit keyboard as standard, a more durable unibody plastic body (like a cheaper version of the aluminium MacBook Pro job), and up to 7 hours of battery life.
OS X Snow Leopard purrs along on a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and the same NvidiaGeForce 9400M graphics chip found in the entry-level aluminium MacBook Pro.
Not too shabby for £799 methinks
Also getting a wash-and-brush up is Apples iMac line of all-in-one desktops.
The spanky new LED backlit 21.5 and 27 inch widescreen iMacs come with a choice of graphics and hard-drive options, as well as that much longed for SD card slot and that new multi-touch Magic Mouse.
As rumoured there is still a distinct lack of Blu-ray.
These new models get an edge-to-edge glass design and aluminium unibody.
Sporting 4GB of 1,066MHz DDR3 memory, with breathing space to build-up to 16GB across four SO-DIMM slots.
They’re also swaggering about with a DVD drive, AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, FireWire, iSight webcam and that SD card slot.
The 21.5 inch screen boasts 1920×1080 pixel HD resolution.
You get the choice of chip: the first includes graphics powered by an integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip, and a 500GB hard drive, for £950. The second offers a discrete ATI Radeon HD 4670 card and 1TB hard drive, for £1,200.
The new 27 inch model is rocking 2560×1440-pixel display.
The 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo version includes the ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics.
Whereas the 2.66GHz version is packing either the new quad-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs and ATI Radeon HD 4850 discrete graphics.
You get the option of roomy 1TB or 2TB hard drives.
The new iMacs are bundled with a wireless keyboard and the new wireless Magic Mouse. It’s a mouse with multi-touch – yeah, really, just like the iPod Touch and iPhone!
Want to groove with OS X but your budget stops around the £600 mark?
How about a brand new MacBook that sports a sleeker, smaller plastic case?
According to those Apply know-it-all’s, AppleInsider, the polycarbonate MacBook could be about to get an overhaul, with a thinner body, internal battery and, perhaps more importantly, a lower price-tag.
Word is [...]
Apple just announced new MacBook Pro models with the same upgraded, 7-hour battery life as the 17-inch MacBook Pro. It’ll also feature an SD-card slot.
Apple promises the battery will last 5 years in the same body we’ve come to know and love, along with upgrades across the board: A 3.06 GHz Dual Core Intel processor, [...]
Could there be a faint whiff of the fabeld Apple netbook?
Apparently there’s a 3G packing MacBook Air on its way but there could also be an entry level MBA.
Silicon Rumors has gotten wind from a reliable source that a new MacBook Air will have 3G built in to get you surfing without trecking around hunting [...]
Here’s something new amongst all those new iPhone and Mac netbook rumours that have been keeping the gadgety faithful happy and chomping at the bit.
9to5mac reckons that they’ve got the low-down on plans to give the still fresh-faced aluminium unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros some inner tweakage.
Whispers are that this means faster processors, larger hard drives [...]
There’s plenty-many words going around the interweblogosphere that state firmly that an Apple “portable device” is in the pipe-line.
According to new sources we could be looking at an Apple Tablet or iPod Touch Pro and not a MacBook nano.
The Apple Netbook rumours have gone a little cold of late and the iPhone ones have hotted [...]
The MacBook case cracking issue that a number of people have been experiencing with their 13 inch white MacBooks is real and Apple is willing to replace your MacBook if it happens to you – and that’s according to the latest noble Apple service bulletin.
You will no doubt remember the iPhone cracking problem that was [...]
Now, perhaps the fact that we’re dangerously close to April Fools Day or that I’m preparing myself for the increase of Apple flavoured rumours as we get closer to this year’s WWDC – I’m treating this as a ‘perhaps/maybe/rumour’.
I know that there has been rumblings about an Apple Netbook – but that was bolstered by the order of [...]
Apple has sent in a patent that AppleInsider have pounced on like a hungry wildcat.
The diagram shows how the fruity one plans to hide fingerprint scanners in future iPhones and MacBooks without the need to ruin those minimalist lines that fanboys and girls love.
Their idea is to slip the finger scanners under the MacBook trackpad [...]
The Dell Adamo, the much hyped but super secret squirrel MacBook Air taunter from Dell has increased the tease-o-meter by releasing a slinky video.
The video is kinda like Immodesty Blaize’s reverse strip-tease.
The new teaser shows the Dell Adamo size zero lappy being put together.
It gives the unlikely impression that it hovers and floats about the [...]
Perhaps there’s no need for a MacBook Nano.
If this purty little thing became reality then everything would fall into place.
The iPhone 2.1 could be the iPhone 4G
It looks funky, granted the corners could do with rounding off – but hey, a 32Gig iPhone with MacBook looks with these specs would be rather great.
Wouldn’t it?
Would you [...]
Glenn Lurie, president of AT&T’s Emerging Devices division says that he’s loved to have a netbook with 3G.
Fair enough.
What makes this newsworthy in my mind is the fact that he’s gone and had a word with Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook.
Could this partnership birth a MacBook 3G or even the MacBook nano?
The quote that has [...]
I’ve got kinda used to flicking past ‘Black Friday Sale’ notices on my feeds and emails but, fortuntely, I hit reverse when I saw this and now have decided to share.
Apple is bringing a Black Friday sale from the US and delivering it to us folks in the UK. Thanks Apple – Thapple!
Log onto the Apple Store’s [...]
Sorry – this MacBook Nano has probably never seen an Apple let alone Cupertino!
Whether this is a little custom hack or there’s someone is making a living churning these funked MSI U100 types out from a lock-up “sarf of the river” I have no idea.
But these shiny-but-fake Mini Mac’s do come complete with Mac OS [...]
You may be aware that there has been some rumours about new MacBooks.
No? Really?
Well Apple has given its range of MacBooks an external makeover and a serious power boost to boot!
Their graphics processors have enjoyed the biggest tune-up – each of the machines comes with an NVIDA GeForce 9400M GPU. Allegedly five times more powerful [...]
There have been the usual rumours ahead of the Keynote here are some of the more………confirmed variety.
It will be packing two NVIDIA GPUs inside.
The MacBook and 17-inch MacBook Pro aren’t getting refreshed.
John Gruber over at Daring Fireball says that the button-less trackpad is indeed glass, and “is a button itself”.
Mr Gruber also claims that none [...]
While most of us are wondering or just looking forward to Stevie J’s next keynote on October 14th those clever so-and-so’s over at bbGadgets may just have unlocked the secret behind Apple’s Oct 14th MacBook event teaser.
They’re assuming that the Apple logo is a 1.5″ standard thingy, so they measured the laptop to have a [...]
Word on the street is that the employees at NVIDIA have had their grubby little paws all over the latest Apple notebook and given it high-fives all round for its superior hardware prowess.
Sources claim that the new model will get rid of Intel’s factory standard platform and replace it with components supplied by either Apple or an outside party………
A [...]
Well, little or no surprise that Apple’s 3Gesus phone has appeared as this year’s best gadget as chosen by readers of Stuff magazine in its annual Gadget of the Year awards.
Stuff described the iPhone 3G as “a faster, cleverer version of an already remarkable phone.” It makes it as a neat 1-2 as the phone’s [...]
