Acer_Liquid_A1Cast your gadgety minds back to October and Acer’s announcement of their Liquid A1 Android powered smartphone.

Now, The Acer Liquid A1 is for sale and stands as being the first handset from anyone to run Google’s mobile Andoid OS on Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon hardware – albeit underclocked to 768MHz. Don’t ask me why – they just have.

But if you do buy this you’ll have the bragging rights to having the only model phone to run this processor for a while as, to my mind, the others wont start to appear til well into 2010.

Now, most companies would’ve created quite the song-and-dance about the release of a world’s first and new product – but not so Acer. I’ve discovered this news quite by accident to be honest.

As a recap: The Liquid A1 features a 3.5in WVGA capacitive touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth and a five megapixel camera.

Play.com and Amazon are still listing it for pre-order but eXpansys and others are already retailing for next day delivery.

acer liquidThat’s what Acer is dubbing their new blower.

Today Acer unveiled their first step into the world of Android-powered smartphones – and it looks like the Acer Liquid A1 has shiny shoes.

So – how about that claim then?

The Liquid A1 apparently owes the “world’s first Android 1.6 high definition smartphone” crown because of its large capacitive 800 x 480 res Wide VGA touch-screen coupled with the fact that it has been timed (on purpose I’m sure) to be sporting the very latest public Android build.

The shiny handset seems to be wearing a business suit as well as those shiny shoes but it sounds like Acer has its eye on the regular user as well because Acer will be offering the Liquid in sporty red and chic white, as well as the more trad glossy black.

Round the back you’ll find a 5 megapixel camera for those that like to show-off such things.

The Liquid A1 will come with a custom user interface purring over the relatively bullet-proof Android.

Acer says that all you socialites will be hooked-up with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the rest of the global party thanks to integrated custom apps.

There’s also something Acer calls “Spinlets” – an app that lets you stream and share media with friends.

Release dates, prices and such should be out soon – I’ll letcha know :)
