There’s been a couple of noteworthy announcements made over at the Star Wars Celebration V event in Florida.
George Lucas has unveiled the news that there will be a full Blu-ray box-set and excitingly has aired a missing scene from Return of the Jedi that shows Luke making his lightsaber a cave on Tatooine!
The short section that hit the cutting room floor involved Darth attempting to sweet-talk Luke over to the Dark Side as he does a bit of DIY lightsaber building after loosing his original one when fighting his dad.
As well as that great bit of ‘extra’ Star Wars geekery it was revealed by the producer of the first two Star Wars movies, Gary Kurtz, that the original ending for Return of the Jedi was not included in the film that we all know and love. Kurtz announced that “we had an outline and George changed everything in it.”
Apparently Han Solo was supposed to get killed off but “by that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason,” as “the toy business began to drive the [Lucasfilm] empire.”
I wonder what other secrets are out there……..
In the meantime check out Luke building his green lightsaber below:
Wicked Lasers have constructed a real powerful light sword by utilising the blue-laser diode of a dismantled Casio projector.
Yup, for $200 you can own a Spyder III Pro Arctic portable laser that can actually cause blindness and set you, and anything else for that matter, on fire practically instantly!
This isn’t something to re-enact your favourite sci-fi scenes with – it does seem to be quite dangerous if not taken seriously.
Wicked Lasers actually bundle in a pair of safety glasses with the purchase of a Spyder III.
You may have noticed that I have not once mentioned what it obviously looks like and acts similar to.
There’s a good reason for that as Lucasfilm has hit Wicked Lasers with a cease and desist notice and this little love note
SAN FRANCISCO—(EON: Enhanced Online News)—Earlier this week, Wicked Lasers released photos and information regarding the “Pro Arctic Laser,” a product designed to resemble the famous lightsaber hilt from the Star Wars Saga. Described by Wicked Lasers as “the most dangerous laser ever created,” the product description goes on to say that “extremely dangerous is an understatement.”
Lucasfilm’s General Counsel David Anderman had this response:
“It has come to our attention that a company called Wicked Lasers is selling a highly dangerous product out of Hong Kong that is designed to look like a lightsaber from Star Wars. This product is not licensed or approved by Lucasfilm in any way. We have demanded that Wicked Lasers immediately cease and desist their infringing activities. As Wicked Lasers itself admits, this product can cause serious injury to the user and other people. We strongly discourage consumers from purchasing it.”
Granted, Wicked Lasers does not refer to lightsabers or Star Wars anywhere on their site from what I can see but I guess anyone with eyes hasn’t used a Spyder III laser can see the similarity and the fact that it is, for all intents and purposes, something that only a Jedi should be trusted with.
Lightsabers – the ultimate Jedi fighting weapon. “More accurate than a clumsy blaster” some say. If you have spent hours in the pub arguing debating who used what coloured blade/design of lightsaber, worry no more. Scifi Wire have found Lowbird‘s posting of a helpful lightsaber chart which shows most of the Jedi pokey sticks in [...]
You know when I mentioned the Star Wars tie-in with the newly named Kinect (AKA Natal) controller? C’mon – twas mere hours ago! Well just to show I don’t lie to you folks check out the video below! Yup, there’s actual lightsaber swinging a-go-go as some dude takes on Darth Vader in the short, oh [...]
Everyone that I know that owns an iPhone also has the lightsaber app loaded onto it It goes without saying that the only thing that’s missing is that you can’t really duel amongst your friends. Well, from next month you will be able to challenge your Sith or Jedi foes to a battle. Just grab [...]
How cool is this? The lightsaber flashlight (or torch to us Brits) is a replica of Darth Vader‘s weapon of choice and, unfortunately, is only loaded with 4 red LEDs instead of a laser that can cut through any young Jedi wannabe who would be using their own torch (complete with sound-effects!). It’s powered by [...]
Looking for a Lightsaber for your Wii that’s officially licensed? According to Kotaku that will happen fairly soon! I’m not sure if the quality will be any different to the ones you’re swinging about already but at least there looks to be a Blaster as well Pencilled to be arriving in the Autumn, the official Star [...]
I was looking for Light-sabers for the Wii as my bro got one with the Force Unleashed game for crimbo and I was thinking about getting him another one or this duo pack by Thrustmaster. But then I happened across the fabulous Custom Saber Shop which must be 100% Proof Geekahol! The site classes itself [...]
Firebox has just made this natty little stocking filler available The Lightsaber torch is a full-sized replica of the Jedi’s chosen piece and even makes the trademark “pfshwoooahhh” noise when you turn it on and off. Class! Maglite? Pah! This torch emits a Jedi friendly blue light from its 4 ultra bright LEDs. It’s powered [...]
Step back into the light and away from The Dark Side. Light your path with this pretty funky Star Wars Lightsaber LED Torch. Switch on this full sized replica and not only will it throw purifying blue light forth from the ultra bright LED, but you also get the trademark power-up noise. Features: Full size [...]
To truly be one with the Force a young Jedi should let it flow through them – let it guide them in making their own weapon, the Lightsaber. Failing that, get a kit online – namely the Force FC Lightsaber Construction set. The kit contains instructions and all the parts which enable you to create the weapon of your dreams [...]
New from the guys who brought you the R2-D2 projector which appeared in my crimbo wish-list, is the R2-D2 skype phone and remote controllable webcam! The blinged out chrome-look lightsabre makes sounds like it should and opens up to reveal the dial pad. As well as being a skype phone it will also control the little R2-D2 which is a fully functioning, [...]
Could you imagine a better way of utilising the Wii’s motion sensing controller than to recreate your favourite Star Wars face-offs? We all know that Lucasarts have already announced a lightsaber peripheral for the Wii – just not when it will be released. Never fear though; Play.com is offering an alternative for 15 quid. The Wii Light Sword [...]
