Apple Tablet Price Slips out as does Other Product(s)

by Jay Garrett on January 26, 2010

Not long now.

Apple’s ‘latest creation’ should appear in a few short hours and the loose lips have started.

A German electronics retailer apparently Tweeted the European launch date and pricing for the Apple iSlate.

Ooopsy!

Media Markt let slip that the iSlate would cost 499 Euros on a T-Mobile contract, or 899 Euros without which, if all things remain equal, would look at UK fanboys and girls needing £436 for one with a contract and an ouchy £786 without on March 1st.

That contract free price is a tad steep dontcha think? Either that or this tablet is going to truly amaze.

Even though Apple’s Q1 figures show a 50% increase CFO Peter Oppenheimer has admitted that the app store and iTunes aren’t exactly making the wad. He said “Regarding the App Store and the iTunes Store, we’re running those a bit over break-even, and that hasn’t changed, We’re very excited to be providing our developers with just a fabulous opportunity, and we think that’s helping us a lot with the iPhone and the iPod touch platforms.”

That’s not really the big news though. That came thanks to another slip, this time from Apple COO Tim Cook.

When he replied to questions regarding the tablet from shareholders with the line:

“I wouldn’t want to take away your joy and surprise on Wednesday when you see our latest creations.”

Whoa!

What was that?

‘Creations’? – as in plural? Is this going to be the outing of iPhone 4.0 or something even specialererer?

Answers in the comments box please!

Mewbox – On the Go Music Downloads on Android

by Jay Garrett on December 4, 2009

mewboxMewbox – not a new dry cat food or a mash-up of Robbie Williams’ failed 2006 album and a Danish alternative rock band.

Mewbox is actually a new music download service that originally launched with the Archos 5 Android slate but has now gone live for all Android phones.

This means that whether you’re going to be rocking the new Milestone in a few days or have a loving relationship with the T-Mobile G1 – you’ll be able to download choonz to keep whilst you’re out-and-about for the very first time.

The Mewbox site looks pretty straightforward and not in the least confusing (more than I can say for the Myspace Music site).

There’s also a blog which reports news about the software as well as top track picks.

If you haven’t got an Android powered handheld it may be still worth your while to pootle across to Mewbox as it’s offering a free download (89MB) of some of its favourite songs to keep for anyone!

Now, if you’ve an iPhone you’ll think that this has always been the way as we’ve been able to download from iTunes from day 1. Even the Crackberry has been able to get music on the move thanks to 7digital.

Talking ’bout 7digital – this is who’s behind Mewbox. This should mean that Android users will have access to around 4 million tracks.

Mewbox is out now for any European Android owners, but it’s not on the Android Market – all you have to do is download from the Mewbox homepage here.
