Hunt and Peck Keyboard Turns QWERTY into ABCDEF

by Jay Garrett on July 24, 2009

huntandpeckMost of us; dare I say, all of us, have used a QWERTY keyboard with our puters or phones.

But if you had been shipped in from a galaxy far, far, away and never had seen the 150 year old lay-out but were still familiar with our earth alphabet you may be thankful for this.

The Hunt and Peck keyboard features a one-button switch between alphabetical and QWERTY, and ‘helpfully’ lists both letters on each key so you can get even more confused than you would be by just hunting for the ‘m’ key.

The Hunt and Peck board also sends those well worn acronyms to the function keys – so even though you’ve never seen a keyboard before, you can type LOL and ROFL with ease. That’s useful huh?

It costs $30 to prepare for an alien invasion or just to confuse your parents…………

Apple iTunes Kiosk Patent Filed

by Jay G on May 8, 2009

7-patent-2_01iPodnn have posted up a recent Apple patent application that points to the creation of iTunes kiosks for local and remote media downloading in public areas – we could be seeing these media points in airports, malls, hotels and even on trams, buses and I’m guessing taxi’s eventually.

The idea seems to be that you’ll be able to browse selective, popular media—such as new releases, buy whatever tickles your fancy with your credit card and then download the content onto your iWhatever.

A pretty simple idea but getting that content onto the iPod or iPhone could prove to be quite difficult as the device connectors on the kiosk would get worn or possibly tampered with and Wi-Fi hotspots could get hacked or overloaded.

Can you see a need for these?

Here’s a totally neat looking concept – although, on later reflection it could mean that your face is taking the position of something rude if the large zip were attached to a pair of jeans…….
But a great concept nonetheless!
These funky earphones have been designed by Ji Woong.
Aptly named the Zip-It Earphones they have a zipper [...]

I love my Maglite but sometimes I’d rather take something lighter and something I’d care less about if I lost it or it got stolen.
GearDiary has just posted up these Battery Snaps which cost $5 and will light your path.
All you have to do is press the Snap onto the top of a regular 9v battery, and you’ve got a [...]

Do you long for the iPhone to be given a real keyboard?
Some would  as others remain happy with the touch-screen style board.
With the aid of some Photoshop craftiness here are some design ideas – but we all have to take into consideration the additional width that a real keyboard would add to the Apple 3Gesus [...]

Fishy Weather – Retro Met-Office Set

Remember when the Met-Office sent the lads to tell us the weather?  They’d be there in their best tweed suits moving magnetic symbols around in an attempt to tell us what the weather will (probably) be doing tomorrow?
Now it’s all svelte young blondes and more computer graphics than your average Hollywood blockbuster!
The top man was [...]

If you happen to be a designer of mobile phones you’re pretty much cornered into a number of ‘must haves’:

They have to be pocketable
They must look cool when shoved up against your face
Even though its small it somehow must have a great display that can hold a bunch of icons and be able to display video

So, [...]

Hidden Radio Concept – Simply Brilliant

September 8, 2008 Click to read more →

Every now and then there’s a beautifully simple design that is so intuative it beggers belief as to why no-one else had thought of it.
But, John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen’s has done just that with his ”Hidden Radio” concept design.
Volume is controlled by lifting or pushing down the top part to reveal more, or less, of the [...]
