e-ink

alex-ebook-readerEveryone say hello to Alex the eBook reader.

This lovely, and friendly sounding gadget comes courtesy of Spring Design.

This eBook reader not only has the usual black and white e-Ink screen it has another display that features full colour niceness!

Alex also throws in full web browsing over Wi-Fi and 3G (or EVDO/CDMA in America).

I love the idea that publishers can embed links in to the main text and create live footnotes for further reading in the colour section :)

Web content can be cached onto the device’s internal memory, and swapped to the monochrome screen to preserve battery life.

Alex apparently has ‘full smartphone cabilities’ as well but I’m guessing more info will surface ahead of its ‘before the years end’ release.

screenhunter_05_may__19_01_29These watches look cool, use e-ink and don’t look overtly geeky – WIN!

Personally I think that these new Phosphor watches have real-world style.

The watches have a cool kind of bold newsprint look to them, really using the retro-future style of e-ink to the ultimate.

They’re just right in the chunkiness levels too and the best thing is that the whole range slips beneath the $200 mark and they’re available now!  :)

Check out Phosphor which I found via Engadget

Sony’s Reader Goes Open

Another feather in the cap for Sony’s Reader.
An update will allow it to use EPUB books as well as the ones from the Sony e-Book Store.
This is something that the Kindle can’t do and opens up a large range of books to the new reader which it was definetly lacking before.
Could this be the start of more open readers?

Most of you readers here will have seen quite a handful of e-papers and designs using e-Ink but Epson’s new prototype display demands a closer look!
