Nokia are working on a super swift wireless data transfer technology that they’ve dubbed: Explore and Share.

Nok’s Helsinki branch of their Research Center took the concept for an outing at a Nokia Store where Jyri Hämäläinen presents an impressive show and tell.

In the video he walks you through a live example of how it can be used, including wirelessly transferring a Bruce Springsteen album onto a phone in less than 10 seconds.

As Jyri explains, it could be used to fill a device you’ve just bought with stacks of apps, tunes, and the likes within minutes of purchasing your new Nok.

Explore and Share is based on new radio technology and as you’ll see in the vid the system comes in two parts – the ‘writer’ which you place your mobile on and a touchscreen monitor where you make all your choices.

The neat thing is that the writer will automatically recognise which device has been plonked on it and will offer a customised selection for you based on the handsets capabilities and possibly your previous purchases.

Watch and marvel at the 10 second album transfer:

USB 3.0 is pretty-much here and will probably been more in evidence at CES.

Thankfully the Taiwan-based PC accessory maker VIA has prepped its snappily named VIA VL810 SuperSpeed Hub Controller – this is the world’s first USB 3.0 hub controller.

It can handle data transfer speeds of up to 5Gb/s and features one upstream and four downstream ports.

The VL810 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 but with slower transfer rates obviously.

The five ports support Hi-Speed (480Mbps), Full-Speed (12Mbps) and Low-Speed (1.5Mbps) data traffic.

VIA states that the new controller is ideal for those users who need to backup HDDs or shift HD video files from one device to the other quick smart.

There’s a new company going by the name of Cranberry who is selling a DVD made from high-tech stone (yes, stone) that will store data for up to 1,000 years.
That obviously dampens the [...]

We’ve all read how clumsy government officials, tax departments and our very own security departments are when it comes to data.
Bank employees have left laptops full of account details, names and addresses of various high rollers have been found in coffee shops and the list goes on – and these are just the ones we [...]

Can you smell that?
That’s the distinct whiff of 1984 in the air.
A new EU directive means that from today all Internet service providers are required to keep data on your user habits and usage.
It states that all ISPs in the Union have to, by law, keep records for a year of online communications.
Thankfully, your emails and Internet phone calls will [...]

Better, stronger, faster and wireless.
The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) will be pumping up two standards at CES 2009.
Despite setbacks such as Wireless USB developer WiQuest shutting down the USB TechZone will be showcasing the latest and greatest in cordless USB.
That’s all very interesting but it’s the USB 3.0 standard that I’m more impressed by.
The SuperSpeed [...]
