changable

moduRemember the clever Modu modular mobile I wrote about back in February 2008 and whose release date was whispered as being this Spring?

Well it’s apparently ready for production.

Gizmodo has received a tip; albeit via Israel, via Google Translate – so I’m guessing it’s not exactly water-tight.

Saying that though there is an article citing Modu CEO Dov Moran saying that the modular handset is scheduled for launch in Southeast Asia in Q2 and that the 200 Modu employees have been asked to swap their Nokia handsets for Modu ones.

If you’re not familiar with this funky phone you basically get a tiny cellphone and build a number of “jackets” around it that do a variety of different tasks.

There’s the Ghetto Blaster Jacket designed by JBL for instance.

Moran explains more below in a video from earlier this year:

Rinspeed iChange – Electric Sports Car with iPhone Key

by Jay Garrett on February 17, 2009

rinspeed_icharge_Chances are that you’ve left the house without your keys.

Chances are that you’ve never forgotten your iPhone.

Well, under this premise Rinspeed should be onto a winner.

Say, “I want” to the Rinspeed iChange concept.

This cool car can adapt itself to accommodate a varying number of passengers depending on the need of the driver.

So, if you have friends or not, or want a single-seater sports number at the weekend as well as doing school runs during the week – this will fit all criteria :)

Back to the iPhone stuff: The car is actually controlled by an iPhone!

No need for a key.

This streamlined one-seater sports car transforms into a comfortable car with ample room for three.

Just press a button and the rear end of the slippy-shaped car magically pops up.

The iChange is green as well as cool: It’s powered by an electric motor mated to lithium-ion batteries available in two different stack configurations, one for short- and one for long-distance.

Both choices will apparently be charged by any electric power source including solar!!!!!

The motor produces 150kW, giving the car a top speed of 220 km/h (137 MPH) and a 0-to-100 km/h (0-to-62 MPH) time of slightly more than four seconds — thanks to a six-speed gearbox borrowed from the Subaru WRX.

And we know how good the WRX Scoobies are! :)

Did I say I wanted one already? ;)

Lego Click With Alcatel to Produce a Mobile Phone

February 11, 2009 Click to read more →

This, by all accounts, is a real Alcatel mobile phone that is also a fully licensed Lego product.
Fantastic!
Unfortunately though, you can’t get out your Lego and add useful things like wheels, a cockpit, robot arms or the colour sensors from the latest Mindstorms NXT 2.0.
It does, however, have interchangeable faceplates.
I’m thinking this is a great [...]

Zoybar – Modular Guitar Kit – Build Your Axe

November 24, 2008 Click to read more →

I play in a variety of bands and projects with an equally ecclectic range of styles.  I could be playing out-and-out pop one day and then a few days later playing Drum and Bass and then covering an Iron Maiden set.
It would be great to have the choice of set-ups, necks and pickups for each gig.
That [...]
