According to a panel of German gaming industry experts the winner of this round is Sony with PlayStation Move beating Microsoft Xbox Kinect to the best hardware accessory prize at the Gamescom 2010 expo.

Is this how it’s going to be on the Christmas best-sellers lists?

How about a run down of all the Gamescon winners?

Well, have a look at this triumphant lot :)

Facebook Places – Security Issues

by Jay Garrett on August 19, 2010

You may have noticed that Facebook launched its new Facebook Places service.

It’s not up-and-running here in the UK yet but it wont be long til it is.

As with anything to do with Facebook these days there’s some concern regarding privacy.

Righty, what’s this Facebook Places about anyhow?

Well, everyone’s favourite social hub is bringing check-ins and location based services to FB.

If you’re familiar with FourSquare and Gowalla you’ll know what to expect.

If you follow me on Twitter or are a Facebook friend of mine you’ll know that I dig FourSquare – chances are that I’ll give Places a whirl but there is a little niggle that’s come to light already.

Friends can check you into places – even if you wanted it kept on the down-low.

On the one-hand it’s a nice and innocent enough idea – say a mob of you are going to a house party or gathering of some sort, perhaps a festival, the organiser can check everyone in which would be pretty sweet.

Not so great if you’ve told your boss that you’re unwell and your ‘friend’ tags you as being at the local for a liquid lunch ;)

If you want to avoid this type of thing here’s how to switch it off as it’s on by default.

1. Go to Account, Privacy Settings

2. Click Customise Settings

3. Scroll down to “Things Others Share” and select Disabled from the “Friends can check me into places” drop down box.

4. Sorted.

Now, if you’re totally not happy with location-based apps you may hear alarm bells when you see the “Include me in “People Here Now” after I check in” box – don’t worry this can also be disabled but also negates the whole point of this service really.

I read a tweet this morning and, true enough, the Facebook Places logo does indeed look like a 4 in a square. :)

With this iPhone app update FaceBook has also followed FourSquare and Twitter and added the ‘pull down to refresh’ action to its app as well as refreshing some of the menu logos.

Is anyone already using Facebook Places?  Anyone looking forward to doing so?

Let me know :)

The excitement is building. Quite a few of my buddies are already salivating over the prospects of The Call of Duty: Black Ops special editions but questions regarding the inclusion of zombies are still being asked. I’ve scoured UK retailers’ sites and listings for more information and came back none-the-wiser. Our US cousins, however, over [...]

I’ve definitely found Google’s Street View very useful for virtually walking to venues from train stations in the hope that I don’t get hideously lost. Thankfully with the Street View/GPS combo it hasn’t happened – yet. Well, Microsoft Research wants to push this tech further and have taken the street-view idea and developed a new [...]

That’s right my beat-em up buddies! For almost 20 years the debates, battles and arguments have raged as to which title is the best – Tekken or Street Fighter? The rivalry between these two titles still rages on and rival gaming companies Capcom and Namco have now put their heads together. Street Fighter X Tekken [...]

Yup – I queued up on the off-chance that I could score an iPhone 4 on release day.  I attempted to get up early but the night before still loomed over me, wagging its finger and laughing. At 3pm I decided to give it a shot. 150 minutes minutes later I was leaving the store [...]

MY HEAD HURTS! I’ve tried looking at the tariff’s and handset prices to try and decide if O2 gets to keep me or if I should shuffle off to Vodafone or Orange. I hate maths but I hate spending too much money even more! What makes things worse is that T-Mobile, Tesco and 3 have [...]

It’s happened. Apple has gone official (as if it could do otherwise) with iPhone 4. It looks just like we’ve seen although Stevie J insists that we “… gotta see this in person. Glass on the front and back, and steel around the sides. It’s like a beautiful old Leica camera.” Looks aint everything though [...]
