iPhone GamePad Controller

by Jay Garrett on July 26, 2010

It’s been 18 months or so and there’s still no sign of the iControlPad.

So, what are we iPhone gamers going to use to better our scores?

Whilst trawling the interwebs for stuff to shove on Gadgety News I found something simply called the iPhone GamePad.

From what I can see, this is a slip on case for the first iPhone (a promise of 3G/3GS models) and will add the old-skool gaming controls of four primary control buttons plus a D-pad to your Apple smartphone. You also get a pair of shoulder buttons as well as Select and Start buttons.

CP Design are looking for people to help bring this prototype into the really real world of buyable probducts.

Challenging your buddies to a gaming battle usually means that they have to use the same kind of machine, or at least operating system.

This is more of an issue if we’re talking about a mobile phone game.

Well, Skies of Glory hopes to bridge that unfriendly divide ‘tween Android and iPhone gamers.

The game’s developer, SGN, has announced the release of the first game to allow play between two different handsets which allows iPhone and Android users to compete live against one another over EDGE, 3G and Wifi.

Togetherness is such a beautiful thing isn’t it? Especially when it involves shooting your best mate out of the skies! ;)

The iPhone owners in the house will probably already know the “Skies of Glory” title as it appeared in the app store back in December. It has now been released for Android-based blowers that are rocking 2.0 and above – including the EVO, Nexus and Droid phones.

SGN worked with Revo Solutions in order to create this Open Platform Multiplayer Framework and have probably opened up a new market for cross platform gaming which can only be a good thing :)
