codmw2You can’t have gotten through this week without hearing about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I’ve not bothered mentioning it as everyone seemed to be doing that.

But I can’t fail mentioning this.

The latest episode of the popular shooty-shooty-death-kill game has experienced the biggest launch of an entertainment product in history!

It has managed to haul a huge $310 million in the space of 24 hours in the UK and US alone!

Remember that little Batman film – Dark Knight? PAH!

That only managed $158 million in the same period of time.

This amount was generated by 4.7 million units sold which is especially fantastic when you know that the market has been in decline in the last year.

In the UK 1.2 million copies were sold in the 24 hours following its release, twice the amount Grand Theft Auto IV sold in its first day.

Analysts predict that by Christmas, Activision will have sold around 12 million copies of the game.

Since its release, the game has been plagued with online difficulties. PC gamers were disappointed with the initial lack of online support, while the PlayStation Network struggled to deal with the sudden flood of online games.

Meanwhile Xbox Live experienced relatively few problems, and even achieved a landmark 2 million users online at the same time.

Is it all that it’s cracked up to be?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below :)

DJ Hero Gets Superstar UK Price

by Jay Garrett on July 2, 2009

dj-hero-controllerDJ’s generally have it slightly easier than bands.

Their gear is easier to break down, they don’t have to split their fee with 2, 3, 15 (if you’re in Dexy’s Midnight Runners) other people and ultimately most of the music they play has already been written and recorded by somebody else.

This easy run may explain Activision’s decision to price their DJ Hero kit at £108!

The recommended retail price for the game is far more than the £70/£80 I was expecting for a typical Guitar Hero package – it’s almost at the same price point as the £135 you’d have to cough-up for the full Guitar Hero: World Tour bundle with drums, guitar and microphone.

Retailers are hopefully going to drop the price, (HMV have already knocked a whole nine quid off the pre-order price) – but, personally this isn’t enough when you see that the game can be picked up in the States for $120 (£73 at today’s rate)!

I’m sure it’ll be fun getting your Fat Boy Slim or Paul Oakenfold on but, c’mon – £108?

Thumbnail image for Activision DJ Hero Controller Leaked on Twitter

This is apparantly the controller for Activision’s soon-to-be-released DJ Hero game.
Not suprisingly the controller takes the form of a turntable with buttons on it – I was kinda hoping for twin-decks with a mixer, but hey!
Two pics of this beast were tweeted from a Twitter account called “djhero” and, according to Kotaku, the images were later confirmed [...]
