Commodore 64 Revived with New Powers and Performance

by Jay Garrett on March 19, 2010

Every geek of a certain age will remember the now classic Commodore 64.

It was at the height of 8 bit technology when it appeared in 1982 and over the following 12 years 17 million of the them were sold!

The new C64 will be sporting Intel’s 64-bit quad-core microprocessors and 3D graphics capabilities upto 500GB of hard drive storage and 4GB of RAM. Also included are a DVD-RW drive, a touchpad, four USB ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) port to connect monitors – all this is squeezed into the all-in-one’s keyboard that measures 17.5 inches (44 cm) wide and 2 inches (0.5 cm) tall.

Commodore said. “It’s designed to take up far less room — and use far less energy — than any other desktop computer,” Commodore USA said. The PC will run the Linux, Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

Commodore USA’s online store is due to open June 1 offering the new edition. Obviously they’re hoping that trading on the licensed Commodore name will envoke all those fond memories.

Is it working for you?

Tracks by Aiaiai – 80’s Headphones for 2010

by Jay Garrett on January 18, 2010

Righty – you love the retro vibe, perhaps wearing some cool Space Invader tights, but you’re rocking some modern headphones – you’ve ruined the look!

You could get yourself some mighty fine Koss Porta Pros, which I’ve owned and loved but they might be a little ‘off-the-shelf’ for someone as cool as you.

May I present the ‘Tracks’ headphones from the fantastically named Danish company – Aiaiai!

These have a distinct whiff of the Walkman ‘phones and are admittedly styled on the personal audio classics which must’ve helped Sony beat Phillips in the compact cassette player wars back in the 80’s.

You get the comfy foam ear-pads that slide on brushed steel head braces.

Whilst their looks are stuck in my favourite style period the ‘Tracks’ are 21st Century with the latest in driver technology and you should be getting decent audio from the 40mm speakers.

These will also play nice with Blackberry’s and iPhones so there you go.

£44.50 will get you stepping out from the crowd!

Check the range out at Aiaiai.dk
