I only met the Como Audio range recently and so am happy to hear that it has just launched its new SpeakEasy smart speaker on Kickstarter.
The Como Audio SpeakEasy smart speaker packs Google Assistant functionality along with a more traditional approach to construction.
This is the ideal device for those who want to enjoy the highest quality sound in music, the ability to control compatible devices throughout the home, and manage everyday tasks – all with the simplicity of voice command technology.

Additionally, SpeakEasy has a clock and alarm function – making it perfect for bedroom or kitchen use. Rounding off its multi-tasking credentials is the fact that it can be either mains powered or work with an optional battery pack for portability.
Kicking things off with the spec list. The speaker is kitted out with a ¾-inch soft dome tweeter and 3-inch custom, dual voice coil woofer. This is all sorted through custom DSP equalisation. Add in a rear port for enhanced low bass frequencies and a 25 watt per channel Class D digital amplifier, all should sound sweet. That rear port also doubles as a nifty carry handle.
All of that is wrapped up in a cabinet that is almost half-an-inch thick. You have a choice of real walnut or hickory wood veneer or high-gloss, multi-layered piano black or white finishes.
The top and front panels, as well as the knobs are anodised aluminium. The speaker grilles are painted aluminum. So, aside from the LED display and sensor, no plastic is used on the baffle.
As well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth is also on-board should you need it.
You can connect SpeakEasy to an optional, dedicated right-channel speaker for authentic, two-channel stereo. This will naturally hand you greater imaging and a broader soundstage.
SpeakEasy also has the ability to wirelessly link with other Como Audio Music Systems to create a multi-room streaming system. All you have to do is connect Google Chromecast Audio devices (not included) to other units. From there, just ask SpeakEasy to play music in one room or throughout your home via Google Assistant.
Tom DeVesto, Como Audio Founder and CEO, says
Our first two Kickstarter campaigns (Solo/Duetto and Amico/Musica) raised over a half-million dollars combined and allowed us to bring to market some truly special audio products that have enjoyed consistently favorable reviews from customers and leading audio critics. This wouldn’t have been possible without the Kickstarter community. We think this, our third campaign, will be our best yet and we’re very excited to once again work with backers to help make SpeakEasy a sweet reality.”
Price and availability
After SpeakEasy is delivered to Kickstarter backers, it will become widely available in retailers worldwide by November, with a suggested retail price of $349 (UK price TBC.)
