Build Your Own MSI Wind Desktop – Atom

by Jay Garrett on August 14, 2008

You fancy an mini/slim pc but love the DIY aspect – you probably made your own desktop before already.

How about going and getting yourself a barebone MSI Wind system from Newegg for $140?

No, not the laptop!

It’s one of the first desktop systems to use Intel’s power-sipping Atom processor (1.6GHz).

You’ll need to add RAM (it uses laptop RAM) and a hard drive to this kit, and maybe even a little Wi-Fi card as it has a mini PCI slot if you’re feeling like going the whole hog.

The board itself has an internal Compact Flash slot that shares an IDE channel, so you could stick a big CF card in there instead of a hard drive.  Sweet!
